To or Til?

During a random discussion with Emily today we discovered that I (a Brit - though not necessarily representative of all Brits) say "quarter to eight" when telling the time whereas she (an American, though again not necessarily representative of the whole of the USA) says "quarter til eight." This also goes for five, ten, twenty, etc minutes to/til an hour.

Emily and I both find these little differences rather amusing. We also think they could be very useful for all of you interested in the variations between British and American English so I thought I would share this one with you. I will keep you posted of any other random anomilies we stumble across...
